What does it take to maintain a healthy democracy? I recently connected with Gabby Bouchard, another engineer and civic leader who’s exploring just that. Gabby argues that a healthy democracy relies on regular connections between strangers, where people can come together and contribute to something beyond themselves.
In a podcast series called The Real Influencers of Canada (check out the trailer here), Gabby interviews 9 Canadians that are strengthening Canada’s democracy with volunteer work in their communities, and I’m proud to be one of them.
In our interview, we discuss the role of the built environment in bringing people together, how I was influenced by my studies in the Netherlands, and the volunteer work I’m doing with my community group Better South Keys Centre. By bringing neighbours together within walks and workshops, we’re supporting a community-led vision for transforming a big-box mall into a walkable, people-centred place.
You can listen to it on a podcast platform of your choice, or watch the interview on YouTube.
